The No Work Club 7 Miles Deep Review

7 Miles Deep Review | Trapped in a Submarine with only one way out! Make your way through to the other side of the Submarine to the emergency exit. Oh, and by the way, there’s only 60 minutes worth of oxygen left!

Date Played: August 2024
Time Taken: 37 Minutes
Number of Players: 3
Difficulty: Easy

We were recently invited to have a go at one of The No Work Club’s eight (yes, eight!) activities, and us being The Escape Roomer meant that some of those were of course, escape rooms. The No Work Club is a really interesting, brand new venue located in Lincoln. It hosts axe throwing, mini golf, interactive darts, shuffle board and much, much more. It’s the type of destination you could spend a long time in, even if you’re not an escape room enthusiast.

As soon as you step into the venue, it’s clear that decoration is something that they put a lot of effort into, and as a result are great at. Whilst we did not play mini golf, the whole golf set looked ace, and we would definitely be keen to return back to have a go.

Our adventure started by grabbing a drink from the in-house bar, and there we played a few of the tabletop games whilst we waited for our games master to take us into our first of two rooms.

One of the most interesting things is that all of the escape rooms at The No Work Club are hosted in shipping containers. Whilst we initially thought this might mean we could guess the space (no secret second rooms here) and overall might feel a bit “boxed in” (pun intended), we were pleasantly surprised with what the rooms had to offer.

Of the two rooms we played, the first was 7 Miles Deep. We also did Experiment X, which you can read our review for here.

Descending into the Depths

Our first game took us to the depths of the sea as we ventured into the Escape McEscapeFace capsule – yes, I have made up that name but I thought it fit quite well! The shipping container backdrop was really suited to this submarine-like theme, with the decoration doing a fantastic job of elevating the playing space to really make you feel as though you are on board an old submarine.

As a team of three, we took a bit of time to really get into this room. The set design was so ‘submariney’ that at times we were unsure if elements of the room were set design or parts of a puzzle, but once we found our “flow” (literally, in the case of one of the puzzles), we had a blast going through each compartment of the submarine in order to find our way out.

In terms of puzzles, there were a good mix, ranging from more typical “logical” puzzles to some fun (and challenging) physical tasks that didn’t feel out of place inside the theme at all.

We got out in about 37 minutes, which for a group of 3 who have played over 300ish games, felt pretty solid! Folks who may not have tried too many escape rooms will likely escape in closer to the full hour. This makes sense, as The No Work Club is more of a multi-experience destination, and so an escape room might be an added on bonus at the end of a day of minigolfing, or shuffleboarding, rather than the whole focus. But, you never know!

This room would make an excellent part of any night out or date night. We really enjoyed the aesthetics of the ship, and the experience felt like a great place to explore and spend time in. Again, the decor really was the highlight. The only minor thing we would’ve liked to have seen, which did detract from the experience, would be some kind of soundscape. Whether music, or simply “strange submarine sounds” in the background, it would have gone a long way to help immerse us in the game.

7 Miles Deep can be booked at The No Work Club in Lincoln.

In the same experience, we also tried their other room, Experiment X. You can read about this here.

Note, we were not charged for our experience but this does not affect our review.
