In a recent post and email newsletter, the team behind the World Escape Room Championship (or ER Champ for short) have unveiled some of the details for the upcoming 2025 event.
For anyone who doesn’t know, the ER Champ is an annual escape room championship crowning the world’s best escape room players. Since it’s inception, the competition has pivoted from it’s in-person origins in Poland, to a digital event anyone can play from anywhere in the world during lockdown, and now back to an in-person one whose finale moves around multiple European cities. Last year the finale took place in Prague, which you can read all about here.

Here are all the details for 2025’s competition:
- Stress Test: May 31, 2025 (online)
- Qualifications: June 28, 2025 (online)
- Finals: October 19-20, 2025 (in-person)
The finale will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. This year’s competition will be held at The Purgatory, a venue with space for the escape rooms, competitors, and spectators.
In a few other announcements, the team also shared that the ER Champ competition will be on English-only. This includes the website, and gameplay. Previously the games were available in both English and Polish. The change has been implemented to ensure fairness to teams, and efficiency and quality for designers.
Secondly, the ER Champ will also be host to an Escape Room Conference for Industry Professionals, running alongside the finals in Sofia, Bulgaria. More information will be announced soon.
